Both teams took advantage of a bye in the LFDA Cup to catch up this vital league match which had been postponed in January. The game was moved to the astro pitch at Daisy Park Community Centre to ensure it went ahead as both sides were keen to get back into action.

Mill Utd started the brighter and created some good shooting opportunities in the first half although the Villa Park defence were happy to contain them to shots from outside the box rather than clear cut chances.

Not that Utd had it all their own way, arguably the two best chances fell to the home side when both McFadden & Barclay put the ball over from 12 yards after some nice build up play.

Mill Utd forced the home keeper into a great double save before finally taking the lead with a 20 yard dipping shot as Villa struggled to contain their lively midfield. A few changes at half time saw a determined Villa side change the course of the game though.

Mill Utd were reduced to just one more dangerous shot which was tipped over the bar again as Villa Park swarmed forward to try and peg the deficit back. Both sides knew the importance of this bottom of the league clash as only a win would suit either of them.

That momentum Villa Park showed carried them to victory with two late goals pushing them up into a far more comfortable position in mid-table.

As the last 10 minutes approached numerous chances had gone abegging but persistence finally paid off when McFadden threaded a lovely ball through for captain Johnstone to keep a calm head and slot the equaliser home. Similar composure was required a few minutes later when McFadden latched onto along pass from Sneddon and he slipped the ball into the same corner of the net to clinch the points. Cue mad celebrations as the importance of those goals was not lost on the players.

A fine second half display brought a merited win for the home team although Mill Utd will probably feel robbed given the late nature of the goals. Both sides showed though that the battle to stay in the 1st Division has a bit of a way to go with six teams involved around a similar points mark. An exciting end to the season seems in prospect.
