24 February 2014
Antonine travelled through to the magnificent football village at Forthbank in Stirling for a Regional Cup Quarter Final v Riverside. Antonine were without Midfield playmaker Joe McKendrick and wide man Michael Docherty through injury andillness.
The game started as a cagey affair with most of the game played in midfield. Riverside had the 1st chance when their midfielder fired wide from a cross from the left.
10 minutes in a Darren Wallace free-kick was nodded down by Adam Boyle to Calum Maxwell who smashed in a tremendous half volley from an acute angle.
Antonine were now on top Caleab Elliots chip from 30 yards went narrowly over. The same player followed this up by hitting the post from out wide on the right.
With 30 mins on the clock a Danny Hamilton was headed onto the post by Darren Wallace and Elliot couldn't turn home the rebound. Antonine were now flying playing some lovely football but were unable to add to their lead.
Half Time: Riverside 0-1 Antonine
The 2nd half started the same as the 1st with Antonine doing the pressing. The Forth Valley league leaders weren't getting any joy when the tried to push forward with the back 4 and holding midfielders standing tall.
An Owen Gallacher strike was turned round the post by the keeper. A Hamilton corner was then headed goalwards by Wallace but Chris Donaghy couldn't get a final touch on it. Fraser James then skimmed the bar from 20 yards.
With 20 mins to go Antonine deservedly scored their 2nd. Boyle played the ball to Dean Miller and his cross was superbly headed home by top scorer Caleab Elliot.
Antonine pushed on for the killer 3rd goal and the keeper pulled of a great save from Fraser James.
As the game went into injury time Riverside pulled a goal back with a neat passing move down the right with a composed finish from the striker.
Riverside pushed everyone forward in the 5 mins of injury time but Antonine held out for a tremendous victory.
Antonine played some great passing football but also kept their discipline and shape throughout the game and ran out well deserved winners.
In the Semi-final they will play either Kilsyth or Seafar Cumbernauld Blue at the end of March. Next up is a local derby away to Goldenhill in the league cup.
