Hillwood were looking to make it into the Semi Final of the Scottish Cup with a home tie vs. Calderbraes. The lads were buzzing at training all week and expectations were high in the squad that they could progress further in the competition.

The gaffer had asked for the boys to start quickly and not let the away team settle on the ball and he got just that as Hillwood started the match like a train. The game was only 6 minutes old when the deadlock was broken by Kyle Taylor who headed in from a corner to make it 1-0 Hillwood.

Next to try his luck was Barry Knox. The midfielder drove into the opposition half and beat a couple players but his shot could only find the side netting. However, it was soon 2-0 when Kyle Alexander headed home from close range.

Calderbraes were still a threat and had the ball in the net, only for the ref to blow for offside. It was a sharp reminder that they couldn't let their performance drop and it served as a shot in the arm they needed.

Thankfully for the home side they regained their composure on the ball and were unlucky not to extend their lead as Nathan Durham's shot came crashing back off the post. It was a great effort deserving of a goal.

On the 26th minute Hillwood got their third. Kyle Taylor rounded the keeper and tapped into the empty net. It was a great run and finish by Kyle who was having a great game.

Half Time: Hillwood BC 3-0 Calderbraes BC

The coaches were very happy with how the team had played in the first half. They were doing everything they had been instructed to do. The gaffer asked for them not to let their performance drop, as the next goal could prove crucial.

No sooner had the 2nd half started and the away team found a way back into the match. They were awarded a penalty, which they duly converted to make it 3-1.

Hillwood had to regroup and work that little bit harder to compete, as they didn't want to concede again. They began to dominate the game again and put the tie beyond doubt when Derry McGettigan made it 4-1.

Hillwood had the bit between their teeth again and scored from the Calderbraes kick off. The midfield hunted down the ball and Stefan Downey played in Kyle Alexander who made it 5-1.

The goal of the match came by the way of Kyle Taylor. Kyle ran from his own half of the park. He was going past players as if they weren’t there. He finished wonderfully past the keeper to complete the scoring.

It was an absolutely fantastic performance by the whole team and an away Tie with Ayr Boswell awaits in the Semi final in March.

The club would like to thank all Parents, Supporters and Players from the other age groups within Hillwood who came down to watch and cheer the team on. It gives the team a huge boost seeing the crowds at the side of the park. We would also like to thank Morrison's Newlands who kindly donated the buffet for the teams after the match. It was a fantastic gesture and was greatly appreciated by the club.
