PGBC 13's 2 St Peters 3

Taking a break from league duty, Port welcomed 1st division side St Peters to Parklea for a West Region Cup tie on Saturday morning.

In a tough start to the game Port battled well against the team two leagues above them. St Peters did draw first blood with a good strike across Port keeper Lewis McClure from the edge of the box.  St Peters kept pressing Port hard but Lewis McClure was on fine form pulling off some great saves.  Port's chances were limited in the first half but they kept working hard for each other and just before half time they had keeper Lewis McClure to thank again pulling off a great stop.

In the second half Port came into the game a lot more. Jack Anderson got onto the end of a great pass from Brandon McCabe but as he got to the box the St Peters defender got his tackle in at the right time. Another good run from Jack found his himself in space, he skipped past two defenders but found himself brought down inside the box to win Port a penalty. Up stepped Declan Adair who made no mistake in leaving the keeper no chance. The goal seemed to spur Port on and helped them grow in confidence. A good run Brandon McCabe saw him brought down about 25 yards out, up stepped Declan Adair again who sent his free kick over the wall and straight into the net. St Peters hit straight back with a great free kick of their own leaving the in-form Lewis McClure stranded. Port had Lewis to thank again when he saved well as he was left one on one.
Another fine save from Lewis ended bad for Port as a St Peters forward was first to react to score from the spills.

This was a great performance from every boy. They should take great pride in their performance and look to carry the same attitude into the league.
