After a mixed start to the season West of Scotland champions Rutherglen Glencairn were looking to try and put more points on the board and keep their title chances alive this early in the season but visitors Bonnyton had other ideas scoring a last minute winner to make it 4 defeats and 3 wins in the league so far for a very inconsistent Glens team.

Straight from the first whistle both sides looked to test each others defence with some great football being played and lots of chances being created in a very end to end first half. The first big chance of the match came to Dale Simeon but the Glens player couldn't get the right connection with the ball after Nathan Ward fired a ball across goal.

The deadlock was finally broken and to no shock of anyone in the Clyde Gateway stadium and it was Bonnyton to do it after Laith Al Neame mad two wonderful saves but couldn't stop Jordan Craig who smashed the ball low and hard into the net to put his side ahead.

Garry Sweeney showed great strength then vision to firstly hold the ball up then lay off Dale Simeon who's attempt at goal flashed just wide.

Moments later the away side added to their tally when David Stevenson smashed a shot from the edge of the box right into the Glens net leaving the keeper suprised and with no chance.

Rutherglen would have to show real champions spirit to try and get back into this game and they showed a bit of that shortly after conceding when Dale Simeon was brought down in the box and the Glens were awarded a penalty. Captain Terry McMullan's spot kick was saved but the big number eight rolled in the rebound.

Just on half time the drama didn't stop as just before the break the Glens showed great fight to even the odds when Callum McRobbie's shot was palmed out to Garry Sweeney who fired past the keeper to make the Glens coaches half time team talk a little bit easier.

Half Time: Rutherglen Glencairn 2-2 Bonnyton Thistle

The second half looked to be just as exciting as the first right from the off when for the first time in the game Glencairn took the lead. Garry Sweeney's header bounced off the bar and Euan Conroy was there to tap the ball into the net.

Bonnyton looked to try and get back into the game with a flurry of chances and eventually found that all important equalisier. Peter Wood powered home a header from a well weighted corner from the left to make the score 3-3 going into the last ten minutes of the game.

Both teams pushed that extra last bit of energy to try and clinch a winner in the closing minutes but after a lot of stoppages for free kicks, corners and subs the game looked to end as a draw.

However that all changed in the very last minute of the game. Jordan Craig smashed a piledriver from the edge of the box right past the keeper to snatch all three points for Bonnyton and send the champions home feeling robbed.

A thrilling game, which could have went either way. Thistle returned to Ayrshire jubilant, whereas Glencairn will have to pick themselves up and go again with the distraction of the Scottish Cup next on the agenda.
