This was the second East Region League Cup match held at St. Andrews on the day, and there was a great atmosphere building up for the game. Two Forfar teams had made it into the final, Forfar Farmington had been having a superb season and Forfar Farmington Wildcats had a brilliant cup run and upset the odds to make it this far.

The game kicked off, and both teams were fighting to get an early chance. Soon though, Forfar Farmington started to settle and control the game. Forfar Farmington started to play some nice football and looked dangerous every time they attacked, despite Forfar Wildcats strong defending.

Forfar Farmington took the lead early on when Kiera Johnston got the first goal of the game with a great bit of skill, but it wasn’t long before she doubled Forfar Farmington’s lead with a second goal and a fantastic finish. Forfar Farmington continued to put pressure on the Forfar Wildcats with quick passing moves through the midfield and a pacey upfront caused problems for the defence. It wasn’t long before Jodie Alison further increased the Forfar Farmington lead. In the 21st minute Alison made it 3-0 with a great strike from inside the box.

Forfar Wildcats weren’t ready to give up though, Katy Morrison almost managed to pull a goal back in the 23rd minute. Morrison skilfully beat a player just outside the box and then whipped a brilliant curved shot towards goal but Rachelle Milton made a fantastic diving save. Tori Clarke also had a good chance minutes later when she struck a low powerful shot towards goal but Milton handled the danger once again.

Forfar Farmington increased their lead once again in the 30th minute. A great ball was played into Nicki Grant in the box who controlled the ball well then smacked the ball into the top corner making it 4-0 Forfar Farmington. The half time whistle blew shortly after and Forfar Farmington left the pitch four goals in the lead. Forfar Farmington were playing some great football and looked the better team when attacking, Forfar Wildcats were still giving it a 100% but needed to create more chances.

Half Time: Forfar Farmington FC 4-0 Forfar Farmington Wildcats

The second half kicked off and Forfar Farmington continued to have a firm grasp on the game. They were holding the ball well and looking in control of the game.

Wildcats came close to getting their first goal minutes into the half. A chipped ball was played through to Keira Balfour who took a shot towards goal but Rachelle Milton made a strong save.

Forfar Farmington made it 5-0 in the 43rd minute. A low ball was played across the box to Sydney Cairns who placed the ball into the bottom corner. Forfar Farmington were very clinical up front and took their chances well.

It looked like Forfar Wildcats were going to struggle to get back into the game, Jodi Allison also scored a second goal in the 54th minute when she was through on goal but Jade Logan made a superb tackle and cleared the danger. Forfar Wildcats countered from this and Leila Strachan struck a powerful shot towards goal but it went just over the bar.

The game was nearly over, but Forfar Farmington nearly made it 6-0 in the final few minutes. Keira Johnstone almost got her hat-trick with a great shot which looked to be heading into the top corner, but Chantelle Anderson made a tremendous diving save. The final whistle blew soon after and Forfar Farmington were the winners of the East Region League Cup. Forfar Farmington deserved to win as they scored five good goals and played some superb football, but Forfar Wildcats still put in a good performance and impressively kept fighting till the very end.
