It was a great day for a final at St. Andrews University, and the players were ready to get the game started. Both teams were having superb seasons so it looked like it would be a very close match. The sun was shining and the teams were ready to play for the East Region League Cup.

The game kicked off with a fiery start, both teams attacked early on and weren’t afraid to get stuck in. The early pressure paid off were Dunfermline as they scored the first goal of the game. In the 5th minute, Lauryn Hynd tapped a brilliant through ball to Morgan Cross who placed her shot in the top corner making it 1-0.

Forfar weren’t ready to give up though, minutes later they had a great chance. Chloe Morrison cut in from the right side of the pitch and then struck a vicious shot towards goal but it bounced narrowly past the post. Dunfermline countered and managed to win a corner, Lauryn Hynd crossed a brilliant ball to Jayny Saunders who headed the ball just wide.

Forfar came close to scoring when Lois Millar played a great through ball to Caitlin Mitchell. Mitchell struck the ball towards goal but the keeper made a superb save. Forfar had another chance soon after when Lois Millar hit the inside post with a great strike and the ball bounced out back to the keeper. Dunfermline also hit the woodwork, Jayny Saunders rattled the upright corner with a rocket shot which went out for a goal kick. The half time whistle blew shortly after and Dunfermline Athletic were in the lead. The game was very evenly matched and Forfar looked like they could equalise if they kept working hard and started taking their chances. Dunfermline were defending well and had plenty of chances to extend their lead.

Half Time: Dunfermline Athletic 1-0 Forfar Farmington

Dunfermline kicked the second half off with a great chance, Lauryn Hynd sent a powerful shot towards goal from outside the box but the keeper made a fantastic save. Forfar hit the cross bar once again with a wonderful strike from Caitlin Greaves which glided through the air and smacked the cross bar bouncing out for a goal kick.

A great bit of skill from Morgan Cross nearly gave Dunfermline the lead in the 39th minute. Cross beat a player with a nice turn on the ball then struck a fantastic shot but it just curved away from the goal. Minutes later Forfar Farmington equalised, a ball was played into the box which Lois Millar skilfully controlled and then placed into the top corner making it 1-1.

Lois Millar was causing havoc for the Dunfermline defence when she almost snapped up a second goal. Millar beat a Dunfermline player and then smacked the ball towards the goal but once again Forfar were denied by the cross bar.

Dunfermline took the lead back in the 57th minute. A fast paced ball was played across the Forfar box and Lauryn Hynd controlled the ball with a nice touch and then slotted the ball past the keeper making it 2-1 to Dunfermline.

It looked like it was too late for Forfar to equalise, Erin Thomson had a chance in the final minute with a shot from far it out which dipped narrowly over the bar. The final whistle blew soon after and Dunfermline were the winners of the East Region Leauge Cup final. It was a very entertaining cup final with many superb chances. Both teams worked very hard and didn’t give up once, despite losing Forfar put in a remarkable performance and there were some spectacular individual performances from players such as Lois Millar and Caitlin Mitchell who played well. Dunfermline did deserve to win though as they defended brilliantly and worked together brilliantly as a team. Dunfermline scored two fantastic goals, and Lauryn Hynd put in a great performance having scored the winning goal and setting up the first one.

Lauryn Hynd was my player of the match because she set up the first goal and scored the winner, but she was also very creative and skilful on the ball.

Lois Millar was my player of the match because she scored a brilliant equaliser and came close to scoring more goals numerous times.
