img1168cA lovely day rounded off a fantastic occasion as youth players from all around the country competed in 5, 7 and 11-a-side matches throughout the course of the weekend providing a fitting tribute as we saw the second year of this weekend festival. The opening day's numbers doubled from the year previous.

The weekend event was kicked off on Friday evening when 200 people from the age of 3 to 65 completed a 5 mile walk through Strathclyde Park as a starting point for the weekend. Saturday morning the action commenced on the Hamilton Palace Sports Centre complex in Hamilton and from the off the sunshine provided the perfect day for families to bond and the kids to have a day of fun filled footballing action.

Jimmy Whelan the vice chairman of Blantyre Academy who organised the event took the time to chat with us.

He said: "The previous year saw the festival make over £5000 for the 2 designated charities which are Yorkhill Children's Foundation and Good Child Children's Foundation and that this year they aimed to improve on that, As for the numbers we expect over double which shows the growth will be a occuring thing and we will get bigger and bigger every year."

Only the second year of this event and already signs of a fantastic annual event which has all kids filled with excitement with the fantastic facilities and opportunities available.
