The 36th annual Ayr International Champions Tournament, or Scotland Cup, kicked off today and can only be considered a successful opening day. Competitors, fans, parents and the like were treated to a marvellous day of football in the rare Ayrshire sun as teams from home and as far as Northern Ireland played their part in this historic festival.
Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s played non-competitively in a 7-a-side basis. Under 12’s played 11-a-side by a means of development while under 13’s, 14’s and 15’s played 11-a-side competitively hoping to be around on Monday to compete in the finals.
The festival will continue tomorrow, concluding with the previously mentioned finals on Monday.
The first day was considered a success by tournament organiser, Duncan McIntyre. “Massive success, it’s went extremely well without any problems. On top of that the weather is magnificent and that is huge.”
