U16 Lanarkshire Schools FA - League Trophy Final
Castle Park, Blantyre
Cardinal Newman High School defeated Trinity High School 2-0 in the Under 16’s Lanarkshire League Trophy. In adverse conditions at Blantyre Victoria Junior’s Ground, the game from the start was scrappy and both teams struggled to obtain a hold of possession.

Jordan Lynn opened the scoring from an incisive pass from Captain Dom Docherty and minutes later striker Marc Kelly scored from an acute angle to put CNHS in a comfortable position going into half-time.

Trinity came out in the second half determined to claw back the deficit. Scott Martin and Luke Watt were instrumental in everything that Trinity attempted in the second half.

The Cambuslang school did create several chances to get back into the match but found the Cardinal Newman keeper in fantastic form. Kevin Nisbet had some excellent chances but a combination of great defending and the ball holding up in the surface water meant that he couldn’t quite convert these opportunities.

As time passed, Cardinal Newman became more comfortable as Trinity ran out of ideas. CNHS keeper Euan Clark and defenders Dean Cairns and Michael Clark held them at bay alongside their team-mates. A great victory for the Cardinal Newman U16’s and well deserved.
