Milngavie Wanderers retained their league crown in style with a 4-1 win over Busby in Yoker. They came into the match knowing that a point would be enough to secure back to back title wins and at times it looked like they would have to settle for a draw. A drab first half lit up by one flash of class saw them lead at half time but that was followed by an immediate equaliser in the second period. 3 goals in the last 20 minutes however, ensured that the title was won with a commanding win.

Gracing the hallowed turf that usually plays host to footballing featherweights, Clydebank juniors, Wanderers pressed forward with purpose right from the off and the first chance came after just two minutes when Alberto Vezza sent Adam Greenlees through on goal but he was swiftly shut down. Rory McInnes then sent the resulting corner to the back post where it was headed wide by skipper Jack Carson. Louis Fisher followed that with an ambitious first time effort which went over the bar from distance before a Busby hand ball led to a free kick on the edge of the box. Ben Jenkins then stepped up to superbly smash the ball past the wall and into the top corner for the opening goal.

The home team were unable to build on their advantage however and it was Busby who had the next sight of goal on 18 minutes but their header from a corner was comfortably held by Jamie Forrester. Vezza had a shot from distance held by the keeper before a Milngavie corner saw Busby counter and bear down on goal with the move culminating in a shot at goal which was well blocked by Carson. The last real chance of the half came on 26 minutes when Vezza rose well to power Fisher's cross towards goal with his head but the keeper stuck out a strong right hand to keep it out.

Half Time: Milngavie Wanderers 1-0 Busby Amateurs

Busby came flying out the traps in the second period and were level within 90 seconds of the restart – the striker bursting through on goal before slotting past Ryan Gillies. Wanderers toiled somewhat in the early stages of the half with the only chance of note in the first 15 falling to Jack Carson but his snapshot from distance was held by the keeper.

They came closer though on 50 minutes with William Fleming's cutback across the face of goal evading Vezza by inches for what would have been a tap in. Fleming's next cutback was more successful however as he picked out fellow half time sub Daniel Cairney who confidently side footed the ball into the corner of the net to regain the lead for the champions elect.

The lead was then doubled 2 minutes later as Kyle Campbell carried the ball into the box before being crowded out by the defence – there were a lot of bobbles and mishits before the ball fell kindly for Vezza at the back post who made no mistake as he slotted into the unguarded net for his 3rd goal in as many games since moving up the league table to the club from Celtic.

Fleming seemed desperate to get a goal for himself and he looked set to do so on 63 minutes when he latched onto a through ball from Cairney and took the ball round the keeper but he was forced too far wide and ended up dragging his shot across the face of goal. He wasn't to be denied his name on the score-sheet however, taking advantage of a ricochet which sent him through on goal in the last minute of the match. Again he rounded the keeper but this time he was able to sufficiently steady himself to stroke the ball home into the empty net.

The final whistle then went soon after, confirming Milngavie Wanderers as champions of the U14s Glasgow & District League for the season 2012/2013 – a well deserved continuation of their success-laden debut season last year. There still remains two league games to be played against Fulham and Arsenal and the champions will be keen to end the league season unbeaten before looking to defend their league cup crown.
