Blantyre earned three league points in a home match against East End Thistle at Blantyre's Stonefield Parks. The result saw the home team return to league duty for the first time since September, after good runs in the Scottish and regional cups.

The first half was dominated by the Yellows, with most of the good play coming down the left hand side. Michael McGinty and Stuart Simpson inter-linked well to produce some quality chances. The central midfield pairing of James O'Donnelly and Luke McKibbon had the game by the scruff of the neck and allowed Michael and Stuart to be at their creative best.

Probably the best of the early chances came when James robbed an East End player of the ball in the middle of the park and drove quickly into the box. With only the keeper to beat, James' chip went inches past the top corner. In spite of the domination and scores of chances from open play, Blantyre were unable to convert this into goals until the referee awarded them a penalty. The East End defender will feel hard done by, with ball seeming to strike his hand without him having much knowledge of how it happened. Nonetheless, Luke McKibbon gratefully accepted the spot kick and slammed it into the bottom corner of the net.

This should have kick started an avalanche of goals, given Blantyre's dominance, however, it was the visitors who were to find the net next. A simple ball played down the right wing was latched onto by the pacey East End forward. He raced beyond the Blantyre defence and easily slotted home to make it 1-1.

Blantyre continued to press, earning numerous corners, all of which were placed in good areas by Michael. It wasn't to be though, as the referee brought the first half to a close with the scores tied.

Half time: Blantyre BC Yellow 99 1-1 East End Thistle

The second half saw East End come more into the game with Blantyre having to work hard to re-gain their first half dominance. In spite of the visitors' increased possession, Blantyre were soon in complete control again and fashioned a series of good chances. Luke McPartlin had one of these, when he got on the end of a through ball. He took a good first touch and looked to be driving closer to goal when he decided to have a quick shot. The ball drifted just wide of the keeper's left hand post, with the striker feeling rightfully unlucky.

It seemed only a matter of time before Blantyre would take the lead and it was no surprise that it came from a corner, all of which created havoc in the East End box. Michael, again, sent in a dangerous ball, which was met by the head of Reiss Mulvanney at the back post. The big Blantyre defender made no mistake and nearly burst the net to make it 2-1 to the home side.

Blantyre put the game to bed with a fantastic goal from James midway through the second period. Michael fed the central midfielder with a good ball to run onto. James gladly accepted the pass and drove confidently to the edge of the box, before firing an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net. This was no more than Blantyre deserved, having had so much control of the game.

Blantyre were to continue to make chances with no more return. The atmosphere of the game was to be marred slightly after an East End player clattered into Ryan McGuinness as he rose for a high ball. The challenge was a dangerous one, leaving the Blantyre defender flat on his back in some pain. Oddly, no free kick was awarded. Ryan eventually recovered and put in some strong challenges to see the game out.

This was in no way Blantyre's best performance of the season. With the exception of a few players who impressed throughout, this was more of a workman-like performance from the Yellows, securing three vital points in the league. Next up is Milton Rovers and the challenge is there for the whole team to show their true potential. If they do this, few teams will relish a game against Blantyre 99s.
