North Lanarkshire Leisure's Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility was today abuzz with over four hundred and fifty 2004's players as the LFDA hosted their second annual festival, raising three thousand pounds for Yorkhill Children's Foundation.
The Festival was a source of perfect pre-season preparation for the young players from clubs who will soon graduate to LFDA Sevens. Taking place inside the wonderful indoor arena at Ravenscraig, harsh weather conditions were kept at bay and it proved to be a busy day for both the boys and girls: the final hour of football dedicated to the growing girls section.
The beneficiary was Yorkhill Children's Foundation; a charity who provides enhanced medical equipment and resources which benefit sick children and babies who are treated at Yorkhill Hospital and within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. The money raised from donations will specifically help fund a multi-sensory machine designed to assist doctors in providing medicine to outpatients, which ultimately will improve the quality of life to the children involved.
Spectators watched from the side-lines as groups of youngsters trooped onto the indoor artificial turf throughout the morning and into the afternoon. Players were recognised for their efforts with a participation medal; the awards given out with the help of visiting guests; SYFA Chief Executive, David Little; Hamilton Accies' players, Mikey Devlin & Grant Gillespie and Yorkhill volunteer, Sheena MacDougall.
Speaking to YFS, LFDA's Ross Reddiex highlighted the aim to continue their yearly charitable fundraising festivals; "this is the second major charitable event we have organised and we have been very pleased with the result. We will definitely look to organise a similar event next year to help other worthy causes like the Yorkhill Children's Foundation".
Reddiex continued by extending his thanks to those who helped in making day a success; the staff at Ravenscraig, the volunteer Executive members, the attending guests and most importantly the young players and their parents & coaches who all contributed toward the fantastic event.
