Another beautiful morning for football as the Blacks welcomed Boroughmuir Thistle Whites to Linlithgow for the final game of the season. Before kick off a minutes silence was respectfully observed by both sides before the Blacks got the action underway.

The Blacks lined up with Cozza in goals, Jacqueline and Hannah at the back, Lisa, Emma and Cara across the middle and Ellie up front. The Blacks knew that after last week's tough game against the same opposition, they would need to be firing on all cylinders. Both teams had early attacks snuffed out by strong defences but Boroughmuir were first to find the net with 2 strikes in quick succession. With passing moves that saw them make good progress up the field and despite the valiant efforts of the Rose defenders, on both occasions, Boroughmuir slotted the ball past the diving Cozza, 0-2 with 8 minutes gone.

The home side dug deep however and some lovely passing moves saw them in attack again. A scramble in the Boroughmuir box led to Cara making some room for herself on the left but her shot was saved. The Rose girls sensed a way back into the game and a lovely move saw Emma send Cara down the wing. Boroughmuir closed Cara down and with 3 opposition players onto her Cara stopped in her tracks and passed the ball along the front of the box where the waiting Emma struck it low and hard into the bottom corner, 1-2.

Both sides were looking for more goals and both keeper's were called into action but some great saves saw no change in the scores. Lisa was causing problems on the far side and Ellie was making the Boroughmuir defence work hard. The Blacks began to get the upper hand and the Boroughmuir keeper made 3 great saves. Boroughmuir were dangerous in attack though and every run forward was a threat. Another attack from the away side, saw the ball blocked by Megan in her own box and clearing the ball found Jacqueline with the pass. Jacqueline headed up the pitch and found Emma who had matched her run. Emma jinked past the on rushing defender and fired into the back of the net to level the game, 2-2 with 22 minutes on the clock.

The last 8 minutes of the half saw Boroughmuir increase their lead by three goals and the Blacks would be right to feel aggrieved as their hard work and determination were not rewarded with goals of their own. Jacqueline hit the post twice and all of the Rose midfielders had shots saved. Cozza pulled off a fantastic save just before the interval. A high ball from a Boroughmuir corner was destined for the back of the net before Cozza tipped it over the bar, hurting her hand in the process, but the half finished 2-5.

Megan took up position in goals for the second half and was called into action almost immediately. The Black's defenders were left to deal with a quick moving attack from Boroughmuir, and although Lisa and Hannah stuck to their task, they were outnumbered and Megan was left with no chance, 2-6, in favour of the away side.

The Rose girls had gone a bit flat and the fight seemed to have gone out of them. Some strong play by Cara down the wing using her pace to go past the opposition seemed to lift the spirits. Ellie had had a great game up front, putting pressure on and creating chances for herself and her team mates and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

Cozza was also unlucky not to increase her tally for the season but there was no way past the strong Boroughmuir defence. The clock wound down and both sides were pushing for more goals. The Blacks were the only side to find the net again. With Boroughmuir in attack, Lisa dispossessed the forward and slid the ball to Cara and with a beautiful pass through the middle, Cara found Emma who's quick feet took her into space and she rifled home a shot high into the net, 3-6. Both sides continued to press but no more goals were forthcoming.

The Blacks picked up a few knocks which changed the flow of the game for them in both halves. Linlithgow worked hard for each other as they have done all season and were unlucky not to take more from the game. Boroughmuir took their chances well and some clinical finishing at the end of the first halve gave the Blacks a mountain to climb.

Linlithgow have a great bunch of girls who have smiled their way through the season, win lose or draw and they should all be delighted with the progress they have made with many positives to take forward into next season.
