Dunfermline High School made the trip West to face St Ninian's High School of Giffnock, in the last eight of the SSFA Shield. The visitors were full of confidence after securing an excellent 2-1 victory over a talented Holy Rood side in the previous round, but the Saints had taken care of fellow Fife school Glenrothes High School in the previous round.
The first half was a tale of few chances, with one close call at either end. St Ninian's broke through on goal, but couldn't find their way past the Dunfermline goalkeeper. At the other end skipper Ali McDonald grazed the crossbar as he headed a corner goalwards.

However, early in the second half, McDonald wasn't to be denied. A good spell of early pressure from Dunfermline saw the ball fall into his path, and a low volley nestled into the bottom corner.
To their credit, St Ninian's bounced back and enjoyed a period of pressure of their own. Once again a goal went with the run of play as the home side won a penalty, which was duly converted.
The remainder of the game was closely contested, with much of the play in midfield. With just seconds left on the clock, the winning goal came. A Saints corner kick was caught by the Dunfermline goalkeeper, who set the away side on a counter attack. The ball was sprayed up the field at pace, with the ball played into the path of Daryl Healy, who lashed a first time strike into the back of the net from the edge of the box.
The final whistle went shortly afterwards and Dunfermline celebrated a place in the final four, keeping alive Fife's hopes of netting a national trophy.
