Date: 25/02/2012
St Johns are currently sitting top of FFDL Division 1 and travelled to Glenrothes Athletic on Saturday for the Quarter Final of the Fife Cup.
Glenrothes started strongly and scored when a rebound from a shot was caught between the goalkeeper and a defender when Rhys Sneddon calmly slotted away giving Glenrothes Athletic the lead. Both sides had some chances after this but the first half ended 1-0 to the home side.
Half Time: Glenrothes Athletic Under 15s 1-0 St John's Under 15s
Glenrothes started where they left of by bagging another goal at the start of the second half when Bradley Stalker found Ally near the penalty spot who dispatched the ball into the top corner for 2-0.
Midway into the second half St John's were given a penalty after some contact in the penalty area. The striker sent the 'keeper the wrong way which gave the away side some renewed enthusiasm and belief.
St John's, for the remainder of the second half, began to take hold on the game and got their reward with 10 minutes to go with the previous goal scorer picking up his second of the day after a cross into the penalty area. With the sides tied the game went into extra time...
Full Time: Glenrothes Athletic Under 15s 2-2 St John's Under 15s
The break probably came at the right time for the Glenrothes side as they began to threaten. Connor Clarke then sent the home side in front again making it 3-2. Connor had a very good game and rounded things off nicely with a 25 yard effort hot across the goalie and finding the top corner for 4-2.
Some solid defending from both sides and fantastic goals at both ends made it a very entertaining cup tie. Glenrothes Athletic will now play Blue Brazil in the Fife Cup Semi-Final in March.
Final Result: Glenrothes Athletic Under 15s 4-2 St John's Under 15s (AET)
