A dramatic final couple of minutes gave St Peter’s the win in the Gilbert League Cup against St Cadoc’s as St Peter’s took their undefeated streak to eleven games.
The earlier meeting was a close encounter with the game finishing 3-2 to St Peters and they have not looked back since, drawing only once in the league, and winning their last six on the bounce scoring a remarkable forty three goals in that time.
Saint Peter’s were presented their first chance of the game within the first five minutes, Lewis lifting his shot over the St Cadoc’s keeper and just wide.
There were no real chances after this until St Cadoc’s were presented a wonderful opportunity from a corner which was headed over the bar. A few minutes after this St Cadoc’s were awarded a penalty. The penalty was stopped by Keeper Jacob, however the rebound was put away and St Cadoc’s were one up on the twenty seventh minute.
They were not threatened by the opposition for the remainder of the half and looked like the team in control going into half time.
St Cadoc’s came under fire after half time when Robbie’s shot that sailed over from Lewis’s cross, just a minute after this St Cadoc’s broke up the park and scored to double their advantage. St Peters needed to act fast to try and get back in the game.
On the 48th minute, five minutes after the St Cadoc’s goal, St Peter’s were awarded a penalty, Noah sending the keeper the wrong way putting St Peters back into the game. St Peter’s were relentless in their attack, Luke missing a chance after Noah’s free kick and Lewis shooting wide from Blair’s cross.
Two minutes from time St Peter’s were level, Luke pouncing on the keeper spilling the ball and firing home.
Things went from bad to worse for St Cadoc’s as a minute from time St Peter’s had stolen the game from them, Lewis putting in a great cross for Taylor to finish the game and stun St Cadoc’s, who were walking away with all three points three minutes from time.
The Result puts St Peter’s into the next round of the cup, who will be looking to build on these great results going into the winter period of fixtures. This game showed why St Peter’s are leaders, proving they have the grit and desire to stay at the top. St Cadoc’s however will be left wondering what happened as they missed a massive chance to get one over on St Peter’s in the cup.
