Ashfield Whites pulled off a remarkable comeback after being down to 10 men and 7-2 down at half time to draw 8 all with East Kilbride Caledonian Thistle FC Reds in the Glasgow and District Youth Football League Division 2 .

The home side were looking to bounce back from a 5-3 loss against Glasgow Boys FC and started the game off brightly hitting the crossbar and having a ball cleared off the line in the opening minutes. However, despite their promising start it was EK took the lead in the 8th minute when Johnny MacKessy arrived late into the left hand side of the box to tap the ball into the net.It only took another four minutes for EK to then double their lead when Lewis Burns raced through one on one with Llyod Ruby and expertly lobbed the on-rushing goalkeeper.

Tempers then boiled over a minute later when Connor Johnston saw a straight red for an alleged attempted punch at an EK player. The numerical advantage paid off for EK and in the 18th minute Sam Lester showed quick feet to engineer himself space inside the box and blast into the bottom corner.

Two minutes later, EK struck again , with Kyle Burns powering forward down the right wing and slotting the ball into the bottom left hand corner to put his side 4 nil up. In the 23rd minute, Lewis Burns added to his earlier goal with another fantastic lob over Ruby with the ball gracefully dropping into the top corner. Just as the game was looking like a rout Dillon McGregor restored some pride to the home side in the 25th minute weaving in and out of the EK defence before slamming the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

The Ashfield joy was only brief with Lewis Burns completing his hat-trick a minute later when he ran through on goal and flicked the ball goal wards with too much power for Ruby to keep out. The last action of the half saw Ashfield again reduce the deficit in the 30th minute, with Aidan Shields dispossessing  EK goalkeeper James Knight and then rounding him to fire the ball into an open goal.

Ashfield kicked off the second half with a new intensity and penned EK in their own half, a tactic which soon worked with them winning a penalty in the 32nd minute. McGregor stepped up and coolly put away his spot kick sending Ruby the wrong way and grabbing his second of the match.

Two minutes later Ashfield broke through the EK defence yet again with Shields again rounding Knight and again scoring . EK were creating chances but did not show the same level of finishing as they did in the first half and were punished for it by Ashfield who scored again in the 40th minute. When an Ashfield free-kick was well saved by Knight but the rebound fell to McGregor who made the scoreline 7-5.

Eight minutes later the deficit was reduced to one when Liam Humphreys rocketed a shot from the edge of the box into the back of net with too much power for Knight to keep out, despite him getting a hand on it. In the 52nd minute the same man was involved in the equaliser this time Liam Humphreys shot was well saved by Knight but McGregor was on hand yet again to turn the ball into the goal and complete a remarkable comeback.

One minute later though disaster struck for Ashfield when Christopher Lithgow raced through on goal and slotted past the on-rushing Ruby putting EK 8-7 up. Despite this sucker punch Ashfield did not drop their heads and again pushed for an equaliser whilst EK looked to kill the game off with another goal.

However it was Ashfield that got a dramatic equaliser in 60+5' and who else would it be than star striker McGregor yet again sliding in at the back post and tapping the ball into the net sparking jubilant Ashfield scenes on the touchline.  The referee blew his whistle soon after in an enthralling game at Glasgow Club Milton.
