Dalziel BC continued their impressive start to the new season with a comprehensive 6-0 victory over Strathaven Dynamos. Goals from Joshua Brodie, Adam Barton, Joseph McNally, Luke Dickson and a Scott Livingstone double resulted in an easy day’s work for the travelling side.

Strathaven were up against it right from the off, and should have been behind after just a couple of minutes when Mark Walker headed wide from an Andrew Grant cross. A well-timed tackle from William Poulton then prevented Scott Livingstone getting through on the Strathaven goal.

Joshua Brodie opened the scoring for Dalziel in the 12th minute, his low drive finding the back of the net via a combination of the post and Strathaven goalkeeper Ross Dyet. Some good defending from Gregor Mitchell and Elliott Sorbie stopped the score line going up too quickly, with the latter deflecting a Brandon McKenzie shot behind for a corner.

With Strathaven struggling to get out of their own half, Dalziel continued to pile on the pressure and Strathaven debutant Harrison Ewart produced a goal saving tackle after a long ball caused havoc in the home side’s penalty area. However, Dalziel’s persistence was rewarded when Brodie found Livingstone with a lobbed pass, who duly turned and finished coolly past Dyet.

Livingstone doubled his tally soon after, a sublime lob nestling in the bottom corner of the net after good work from Barton. In a half where Strathaven failed to register a single shot on goal, Livingstone was cruelly denied a hattrick when he cannoned a header off the crossbar from a corner.

The second half started with some no-nonsense defending from Mitchell, typifying his style throughout his years with Strathaven in his last ever appearance for the club. Brodie forced a smart save from Dyet, before Luke Dickson dragged a shot wide after a powerful run through the Strathaven midfield.

Dalziel were awarded a penalty after a rush of blood led to a horrific tackle from Ewart. Barton duly stepped up to calmly convert the spot-kick, sending Dyet the wrong way and finding the bottom left corner. Four quickly became five just a few minutes later, with Joseph McNally heading powerfully in from a corner.

Strathaven registered their first shot on goal in the 56th minute, Connor Anderson sending a long range free kick into the grateful arms of Barry McAulay. A poor Poulton clearance allowed Brodie to shoot, and his shot was deflected just wide. Dickson produced a carbon copy of his earlier effort, again dragging the ball past the post, before Chris Reid failed to connect with a cross he should have scored from.

Sean Cunningham burst through the away defence to find himself through on goal, but shot too early and saw his effort easily saved. Anderson should have then pulled a goal back but his effort was too tame to trouble the Dalziel goal.

Dickson then extended his side’s lead further, getting past Mitchell and scoring a well deserved goal. Sorbie produced two last ditch tackles to prevent further humiliation for his side, before being given a stern talking to from the referee for his out-of-control challenges.

Kyle Waters had a shot saved from outside the box, but it wasn’t enough to trouble McAulay and the away side comfortably saw out the game to go top of the table after two games.
