It was a comfortable victory for Moorlands in the CKDYL League play off final. There was action straight from the start of this game and inside 10 mins it was 1-0 to Hamilton when Hamilton’s Cameron Stewart smashed a 30 yard shot the bar with David Thomson putting in the follow up on the tenth minute mark.

Moorlands began to get more of a grip of the game with Aaron McNeil looking dangerous on the right every time he had the ball. It was he who floated in a free kick on the 16th minute for Aidan McElhinney who battered in a header into the roof of the net to level the game and set up for an exciting encounter.

Moorlands were the better side for the majority of the first half seeing the better of the chances with Logan Jackson having a strike high and wide and Moorlands Michael Clarke going through one on one with the goalkeeper but hit it straight at him.

Hamilton didn’t have too many chances to shout about and it was 1-1 at the break.

Moorlands came out in the second half looking more up for it and it showed with them having the majority of the ball and creating the best opportunities in the first 15 minutes with Logan Jackson again having a pop at goal from distance that went over the bar. Another chance arose for Moorlands with Aidan McElhinney to Sean Monaghan linking up well on the right resulting in the Hamilton goalie Keiran Craw making a good save from McElhinneys deflected effort.

From the corner however, Aaron McNeil again whipped one in and this time it was Moorlands number 4 Mark McNulty that headed it high into the net to make it 2-1 to Moorlands in the 54th minute.

From then on it was all Moorlands with Aaron McNeil's delivery again causing havoc with Michael Clarke hitting his header off the bar on the hour mark.

Six minutes later, after a neat play from Moorlands Sean Monaghan, sees his shot hit the post.

Moorlands endeavour would soon pay off in the 68th minute when McElhinney had his shot parried after a mazy run with Sean Monaghan getting a well-deserved goal putting it in off the goalkeeper to put the game slightly more out of Hamilton’s reach at 3-1 Moorlands.

In the 78th minute it was all over when moorlands won a lenient penalty after a shove in the back from Adam McKeown. The initial penalty is missed but jack Caldwell put in the follow up to make it 4-1 to Moorlands.

Aaron Mcneil as as he created 2 assists for his team and was a pivotal attacking force down both flanks. He was able to exploit Hamiltons weak points in there defence and they could not handle him
It was a hard one to call but even after shipping 4 goals it was Hamilton number 5 Adam McKeown who stood out for the accies as without his tough tackling in centre of defence it could have been a cricket score for moorlands
