Cumbernauld Colts put Hamilton Academical BC to the sword with a 6-2 win which saw them lift the Central Region Cup.

The opening goal of the match came the way of Hamilton in the ninth minute, when Kyle Maxwell found the bottom left corner with his controlled strike from range.

The game was level within 14 minutes, however, and it was Ben Rennie who hit a looping effort from outside the area to make it 1-1.

In the 24th minute Jack Connoly found himself bearing down on goal. The striker rounded the goalkeeper and squared for Rennie but his effort was blocked by a last-ditch tackle.

From that point onwards, Cumbernauld piled on the pressure and they were rewarded in the 28th minute. Kieran Hall got on the end of a long throw to bundle home and put his side in front.

Cumbernauld were beginning to find their flow in the encounter and a minute later they had extended their lead in style. Connoly met a dangerous cross to glance a header beyond the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The second half continued at the same frenetic pace and Accies pulled themselves back into proceedings in the 55th minute. Lewis Fraser’s low drive provoked a great save from the impressive Daniel Burns but Ross Duckett was on hand to convert the rebound.

However, Cumbernauld responded in an instant as Connoly took advantage of defensive hesitation to nick in and roll the ball under the goalkeeper for 4-2.

The striker gave off the impression he was just getting started and it proved to be the case as he completed his hat-trick five minutes from time.

A long throw into the box was expertly flicked on and Connoly gratefully scooped the ball into the net to get his side’s fifth.

Colts had time for one more in the 68th minute as Rennie collected the ball inside the penalty area, took a touch to compose himself and lashed the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

6-2 did not flatter Cumbernauld who were relentless in their attacking as they achieved the victory they craved.

Hat-trick hero Jack Connoly lit up the game with a classic striker's display. Neat touches, clever movement and a collection of goals to finish it off.
Kyle Maxwell is clearly a talent, showed composure on the ball and the willingness to do something different. An impressive display from the young player.

Jack Connoly's header epitomised the striker's devastating performance. The reaction to divert the ball beyond the goalkeeper highlighted the goalscorer's predatory instinct.
Simply put Kyle Maxwell's opening goal was a corker. To be able to pick out the corner from that type of distance is a gift.
