Westerton United & Dumbarton United were playing their first fixture in the Cumbernauld & Kilsyth District Youth League having decided to move from their previous local leagues and were hoping to get off to a good start on the opening day of the season at a wet & windy Colquhoun Park in Bearsden.
Despite the weather both teams produced some excellent football with the emphasis on keeping the ball on the floor and playing out from the back. During the opening 20 minutes neither team really troubled their opponents goal as both defences won the important battles in & around the penalty areas.
In a 5 minute spell midway through the first half, Westerton took a 2-1 lead, with a couple of well taken goals,  Jack Murphy scoring the first as he ran through and hit a 25 yard shot, which flew into the goal off the underside of the bar leaving Dumbarton United’s goalkeeper Evan Currie with no chance as he came out to close down the attacker.
The 2nd goal was just as good, Frazer Weir dribbling into the area and with a deft touch, placed the ball over the keeper and into the net from just outside the six yard box.
Dumbarton United never panicked despite going behind twice during the first half, they kept their discipline and continued playing their neat & tidy football, building attacks from defence and they were rewarded as midfielder Dylan Brown scored twice to draw the game level at 1-1 and  2-2.
Firstly, Ross Peters pass found its way to Dylan who from 6 yards out, headed the ball passed the Westerton goalkeeper Max Clarke and into the bottom corner. His 2nd goal came in the 34th minute as he weaved his way past 3 players and found himself 16 yards from goal before lashing the ball into the net, to make the score at half time 2-2.

As the second half started, Westerton began to dominate the play & with the help of the wind, which was now behind them created & missed several chances to take the lead for the 3rd time.
In the 45th minute Dumbarton United won a corner against the run of play & when the cross came in Ryan Clifford scored from close range to put Dumbarton United 3-2 ahead.
Westerton never gave up and continued to push forward in search of an equaliser. Arran McKenna & Zaki Kahn hitting shots just wide of the goal before new boy Louie Mitchell-Grimes rescued a point for the home team as he pounced on the loose ball after Currie had saved his initial shot.
Both teams provided a cracking game of football and were helped by a referee, William Paterson who allowed the game to flow,  was very clear in his decision making and had the respect of both teams.
