Villa Park hosted Wishaw Boys Club in a LFDA league clash on a sunny afternoon at the Jock Stein Centre. Wishaw had the majority of possession throughout the ninety minutes. Christopher Bruce gave his side the lead in the first half. A quick second half goal from Ross Park gave Wishaw a two-goal advantage however Villa Park pulled one back through Andrew Wilson which gave them a fighting chance. But the chance of a comeback was killed off when Morgan Jones sealed the three points for the away side with a third goal.
It was Wishaw who got the game underway and for the first few minutes kept possession of the ball. Trying to force open a gap in the Villa Park defence. Connor Bohan tried a ball over the top towards Ross Park, but Adam Love rushed out of his goals to put the ball out for a corner.
Jamie Gribbons knocked the ball past Jordan Docherty as he looked to get a cross into the box, but Docherty recovered well and put a tackle in to win the ball back for Wishaw and launch a counter attack. Ross Park got the ball wide right and tried to cut inside, but Jack Kelly deflected it out for a corner kick.
Ross Paton won the ball at the half way line before floating a terrific ball over the top of the Villa Park defence in search of Ross Park, who tried to square it to Jonathan Lamond but the goalkeeper Adam Love was first to it.
Wishaw kept up the pressure when Connor Bohan drilled the ball into the box from a corner and Ross Paton struck a volley was just over the bar.
Wishaw won another corner shortly after, Jonathan Lamond crossed the ball into the box for Christopher Bruce to get on the end of, but he couldn’t direct it towards goal.
Villa Park looked to grab a goal against the run of play. Aaron Thompson had a driving run down the right wing, he cut it back for Jamie Gribbons whose shot went agonizingly wide as it grazed the post.
Wishaw immediately went up the pitch and had an almost identical chance to the one Villa Park just missed. Ross Park had the ball out wide and played the ball across to Mark Ritchie who hit a shot on the turn but it took a deflection of Jack Kelly and went narrowly wide for a corner.
Wishaw wanted a goal before half time. Jack Gold played an excellent curling ball to split the defenders and play Ross Park through on goal, but Adam Love sprinted out of his goals and put pressure on Park and the attack broke down.
Wishaw finally broke the deadlock through a corner kick. Jonathan Lamond whipped the ball straight to Christopher Bruce’s head. Bruce lost his marker and made no mistake in burying the ball in the back of the net.
Villa Park tried to get themselves back on level terms straight from kick off as Jonathan Whelan ran down the right wing and cut inside. He tried to sneak the ball into the near post, which nearly caught Nathan McCluskey off guard, but the shot hit the side netting.
Wishaw nearly ended the half on a high when Ross Park was out wide, he played the ball inside to Jonathan Lamond on the edge of the six yard box, but a shot that would have given the keeper no chance was blocked at the last minute by Jack Kelly, who yet again was there to deny Wishaw from scoring.

Wishaw started the second half very strongly. Connor Bohan played the ball through to Ross Park who took it in his stride and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 0-2.
It was very nearly two goals in quick succession for Wishaw when Christopher Bruce played a well-weighted pass to Morgan Jones, but he couldn’t beat the keeper with his attempt on goal.
A change of goalkeepers for Wishaw as Jamie Anderson replaced by Nathan McCluskey.
Morgan Jones looked to be dangerous on the ball in the second half, he played a ball that split the central defenders, but Robert Platt got the loose ball before Ross Park and cleared the danger.
Villa Park won a free kick 25 yards from goal. Lewis Girdwood hit a curling effort that was heading for the top left corner, but Jamie Anderson tipped it over the bar and out for a corner.
Villa Park started to look more threatening on the attack. Robert Platt dribbled in and out of the Wishaw Boys Club defence then passed the ball into Jac Wyper but the shot went wide of the target.
Wishaw were trying to kill the game off as early as possible. Christopher Bruce passed the ball out to Ross Park. Park took a big touch past the defender and was through on goal. Adam Love came out of his box to try and stop Park from scoring but he touched the ball past Love and attempted to pick out Morgan Jones who was waiting inside the box. However, Jack Kelly intercepted the cross and then played the ball out wide to Robert Platt.
The captain, Christopher Bruce was leading by example in the final third, a low cross was intercepted by Jack Kelly but a mis-hit clearance saw the ball fall to Jack Gold at the penalty spot but the powerful shot was impressively stopped by the goalkeeper.
A third goal did eventually come for Wishaw, Ross Park played the ball through to Morgan Jones. But Jones was standing in an offside position and the goal was ruled out.
The substitute Morgan Jones found himself presented with another chance to get on the score sheet after Jack Gold played a terrific lobbed pass to the feet of Jones, but he couldn’t keep the shot down and it went high over the crossbar.
Villa Park had a great chance to get back into the match when the ball fell to Andrew Wilson from a Jonathan Whelan cross, Wilson couldn’t get the ball out of his feet and ended up scuffing the shot.
Villa Park’s decision to change their formation to a 3-5-2 brought them great success. Jamie Gribbons dribbled in and out of Wishaw defenders and got a shot away, but Jamie Anderson got a hand to it.
Robert Platt skinned four Wishaw players and had his head down driving towards goal but Christopher Bruce received a yellow card for a crunching challenge on Platt, stopping him from progressing up the park.
Aaron Thompson dribbled the ball down the right side; he hit the by-line then cut it across goal to give Andrew Wilson a simple finish and give Villa Park a lifeline.
Any chance of a comeback was killed off when Jonathan Lamond got his second assist of the day. He slipped the ball through a gap in the Villa Park defence towards Morgan Jones who took one touch and finished it off calmly, sealing the three points for Wishaw.
Overall a disappointing day for Villa Park. They didn't have enough of the ball in the first half or the start of the second half, eventually they got themselves back into the game, but any hopes of a comeback were gone after Wishaw sealed the points with a third goal. Wishaw were dominant in possession, but failed to convert a lot of chances and kill the game off quicker.

Jack Kelly. He put in a solid performance at centre back. He was tough for the strikers to beat and frustrated many of the Wishaw players by intercepting numerous crosses and cut backs. He kept Villa Park in the game for as long as possible. He also put in a last ditch tackle in the six yard box to stop Wishaw from going a goal ahead early in the first half.
Ross Paton. He played in the centre of defence and won every header and tackle he went in for. He was calm on the ball and his distribution was good, he started many counter attacks with a long ball or a short pass to the central midfielders. He also nearly scored a volley from a corner in the first half but it was just over the bar.
Magic Moment

Lewis Girdwood's free kick from 25 yards out. He struck a curling effort that was heading for the top left corner and was somehow denied by a fantastic save from Jamie Anderson, who tipped it over the bar.
Jack Gold played a brilliant curling pass with the outside of his foot, the pass was perfectly weighted and it split the two centre backs and allowed Ross Park to get a clear sight at goal, however a good decision from the Villa Park keeper to come off his line resulted in the attack breaking down.
