First half domination does it for Seafar against Rangers

Written by  Seafar Villa Blue

Fixture: Seafar Villa Blue v Rangers SABC U17's
Competition: Cumbernauld & Kilsyth DYL B Division
Date: Sunday 18th October 2015

Seafar Villa Blue hosted Rangers SABC in the league, looking to get a good 3 points and put on a good performance.
Things didn't start too well as before the game had even began, the management had to reshuffle as our winger John went over on his ankle in training so he missed the game and the same applied to Darren our goalkeeper who hurt a finger in training. So it was the same side as last week except, Hayden was in place of John, Hayden went to centre half and Jay moved into right midfield and Zak was a straight swap with Darren.

Seafar management made the players aware of what happened last time both sides met in the League Cup. Seafar’s attitude was terrible in that game and Rangers deservedly went into a 1-0 lead which they held until the last minute of the first half.

With this in mind the game started and after only 3 minutes Seafar managed to force 3 corners in a row and this produced two great saves from the Rangers keeper. However, he couldn't do anything about Seafar taking the lead.

5 minutes in and Seafar opened the scoring with a cool finish from the striker, and added a second goal 2 minutes later. With 15 minutes, the home side were 4 goals to the good, and playing some brilliant football.

Seafar added another 2 goals to go 6-0 up and to put the game beyond any doubt that may of been lingering. All of the goals scored were really good football from Seafar, and unfortunately for Rangers a couple of errors at the back that allowed the home side to exploit the gaps.

Rangers did manage to score and reduce the deficit ever to slightly with about 10 minutes to go. The Rangers winger had the ball and he wasn't closed down at all and was allowed to cross the ball in. The ball fell to the Rangers centre forward who moved away from his marker with ease. As he was closed down by the Seafar centre half he dragged the ball away from the challenge and as the sweeper tried to block the shot, the striker expertly turned again and slotted the ball into the bottom corner. Superb finish leaving Zak in goal no chance.

The goal gave Rangers a little belief, and they received a free kick 5 yards outside the penalty box, dead central. The Rangers player smashed the free kick, and it was a beauty, heading straight for the bottom right hand corner of the goal. Everyone thought the back of the net would be bulging, but Zak threw himself down to the corner and made an unbelievable stop to keep it at 6-1.

Right after that save, Seafar went straight up the park in a counter attack and a mistake between the Rangers defender and keeper resulted in Mikie pouncing on the loose ball, and was slotted home past the hapless keeper.

The final goal of the game (It's only a the first half, I know!) was a great team goal from Seafar. From the goalkeeper, through the defence, into midfield and then to the striker ended up in the perfect goal with almost every Seafar player on the pitch having a touch of the ball at some stage of the move.

Half Time: Seafar Villa Blue 8-1 Rangers SABC

In the second half, Seafar were the better team but you could see that Rangers were now up for the second half and they fought for every ball. Rangers number 7 started to control things when given the chance.

The game was busy with a lot of tackles and both sides had chances. All of Rangers chances were nothing of major concern to Seafar, except that there was a few shots that Zak covered well, simply because he was in the right position to make the shots look tame, and I can assure you they weren't. Seafar never had total control of the game in the second half except in the last 20 minutes when they seemed to be parked on edge of Rangers penalty box. They had a few chances that they squandered, most notably a header that was put just over by Hayden when the ball was crossed in. The ball flew over Mikie and his marker and that left Hayden free with his marker struggling, but he headed over the bar. The Rangers keeper was well worked in the second half but his defence had sorted themselves out and they did well.

Full Time: Seafar Villa Blue 8-1 Rangers SABC

A excellent performance by Seafar who were well up for this league match. The match itself as a contest was over before Rangers could get started, but this was great credit to Seafar for starting so quickly.

Seafar are now coming into a busy time of the season with league games and cup games against Steins Thistle, Carbrain Sky, Campsie and then no rest with cup ties against top division team Finnart and Division A champions Hamilton in a League Cup play-off match. So Seafar know they will be up against tougher opposition who expect to win. Seafar have a lot to look forward to in the coming month or so.
