Eight second half goals saw Bonnybridge Youth complete a remarkable second half turn around against a hardworking Stirling City side.
They had trailed at half time to a James Ward goal but a three minute hat-trick from Ryan Waddell shortly after the restart set Bonnybridge on their way to a comfortable victory. Further goals from Kieran Morrison, Neil Mackie, Jamie McCaughey, Danny Noble and another from Waddell put further daylight between the teams in a match that had been so tight for so long.
Neither team could assert any real dominance in a first half that was hugely competitive but devoid of many clear-cut chances. For Stirling, Lloyd Grassick held the ball well and was a threat up front whilst the towering figure of Dylan Cameron at centre back made a number of crucial tackles and interceptions.
It wasn’t until Sam Eastcroft played a brilliantly weighted pass into the path of Ward that the match had its first clear cut chance. Opening his body, he confidently slotted low to keeper Gregor Forsyth’s left into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to break the deadlock and give Stirling the narrowest of halftime leads.

However, within 10 minutes of the restart Bonnybridge had turned the game completely on its head. Three quality goals in as many minutes from Waddell put the visitors firmly in control.
The first, a left footed free kick from 20 yards curled up and over the wall and past the dive of the helpless Chris Nairns, was bettered just seconds later when he drilled a first time shot from 25 yards low into the keeper’s bottom right hand corner.
And his hat-trick was completed soon after as a Stirling clearance fell kindly to him on the edge of the box allowing him to rifle the ball high into the roof of the net.
Unfortunately for Stirling, the game began to get away from them in a way no one who had watched the first half could have predicted. Waddell’s goals were quickly added to as, firstly, Morrison bundled the ball across the line from close range after a Waddell corner had caused havoc in the Stirling defence before Mackie capitalised on a slack goalkick to fire past the wrong-footed substitute keeper Nathan Ainslie from 20 yards out.
McCaughey added a sixth from the spot a few moments later after Bonnybridge again took advantage of some more sloppy defending to earn the penalty.
To their credit, Stirling heads didn’t drop and - although they carried little attacking threat in the second half – they continued to put themselves about in an effort to halt the flow of Bonnybridge pressure. There was absolutely nothing they could do though when Waddell rocketed another left footed free-kick over the wall and into the net to further compound Stirling’s misery.
As the match looked to be petering out there was still time for the unmarked Noble to head home a corner from a couple of yards out before the referees whistle brought an end to a game that for a long time was a lot closer than the fulltime result suggested.

James Ward's composed finish to break the deadlock was a fantastic finish
The second of Waddell's goals; fired low past the keeper first time was the pick of his goals.
