Mill United Colts under-17s have continued their domination of the Lanarkshire FDA League A with a third title triumph in four seasons.
Success in cup competitions left Mill United Colts with a crazy schedule at the end of the season, playing 10 league matches throughout May, but that did not stop them from winning the league once again.
"I think we’ve performed very well this season, and the boys should be really proud at regaining the league trophy – their third success in the last four years. I think we’ve been a little unlucky in the cup competitions especially in losing on penalties in both a semi-final and final but overall we had pretty good runs in all the cups," head coach Scott Gemmell told Youth Football Scotland.
"Consistency was a key factor and as we had been doing well in the cups we were trying to catch up on league games. The games against Moorlands were certainly the key as they had also been very good and consistent – getting the win on our first league meeting in April gave us the platform for the league."
Gemmell ensured the team trained on the basics in order to enable them to play more creatively.
"I think getting back to some basics has been good – getting them right then gives you the space to be creative and show the skills and flair the boys have. Our work ethic has been very good and a drive to succeed has always been there," he said.
"The key to Mill United Colts success has always been our team work - they are a fantastic bunch of boys and they really work hard for one another. It would be wrong to single anyone out as everyone plays a part."
As for next season, they want to be on the hunt for more silverware when they step up to under-19s level.
"We’ll be playing at under-19s next year and while the step up will be hard we are looking forward to the challenge and our aim is to once again be in the mix in all competitions.," Gemmell said.
Congratulations to Mill United Colts under-17s, 2014-15 Lanarkshire FDA League A champions!
