The 2014-15 East Dunbartonshire School Football season was a highly successful one for Lenzie Academy. The Academy’s teams scooped no less than three league titles - at under-15s, under-16s and under-18s.
With plenty of talent on display from all schools, the under-15s league was very competitive. However, a hard-fought 2-2 draw at Turnbull HS followed by a fantastic 3-2 win at Bishopbriggs proved crucial for Lenzie. The championship was clinched with an emphatic 7-0 win over neighbours St Ninian’s Kirkintilloch.
At under-16 level, Lenzie were undefeated in their campaign. Keenly-contested draws against Douglas Academy and eventual Scottish Cup winners Boclair Academy provided a springboard to success. Inspired by skipper Andrew Henderson, Lenzie followed up with victory over Bishopbriggs and finished the job with a win against Turnbull.
Lenzie’s seniors (pictured, right) notched excellent away triumphs at Turnbull, Kirkintilloch and Boclair, setting up a crunch match at St Ninian's in February. Although the home side struck first, a late equaliser from Callum Dely secured a vital point for the Academy and clinched the U18s title.
Finally, just last week, the school football club enjoyed a bonus as the U14s became the fourth age group to capture silverware, lifting the EDC Cup with an exciting 5-1 win over Boclair.
Lenzie’s ‘Director of Football’, PE Principal Russell Imrie, was understandably delighted with the achievements. He commented: "This has been the most successful football season in Lenzie Academy's history. Winning four trophies was not easy and is a result of the talent and hard work of Lenzie Academy pupils, but also the dedication and leadership of staff. The school is excited for next season already!"
