Fixture: Milton Reds v Stenhousemuir CFC
Competition: Forth Valley FDA Cup 1/4 final
Venue: Bannockburn HS
On Saturday 16th May Milton Reds 1998s under 17’s were at home to Stenhousemuir in the quarter final of the FVFDA Cup. The match was played on the Astroturf park at Bannockburn High School and although the underfoot conditions were fine, the overhead blustery conditions were difficult for both teams.
Milton started well and put Stenhousemuir under early pressure, with the home side totally dominating the possession. They came close on a few occasions to opening the scoring early on, but they just couldn't find the back of the net.
In the 16th minute Milton eventually took the lead. Midfielder Rhys Robertson riffled a low shot from 25 yards out into the bottom corner of the net. Ten minutes later, a corner for Milton was knocked on and centre-back Jason Walker powerfully headed goal number two.
Despite constant pressure Stenhousemuir worked hard and managed to get to half time without conceding any more goals.
Half Time: Milton Reds 2-0 Stenhousemuir CFC
Milton took the opportunity to introduce three subs after the half time break and continued to dominate play.
Stenhousemuir were occasionally managing to break out from defence but Milton’s keeper Adrian Kroll, although inactive for periods, was alert when called upon. The back three was also well marshalled by Captain Ross Leary, ensuring that Milton would not slip up and allow the visitors back into the cup tie.
Although the strong blustery conditions were making play difficult, further goals by Blair Robertson, Callum Brown Justin Reynolds and Jake Webster completed the scoring and made it a smooth passage to the next round for Milton Reds.
