Lenzie six to the good against St Ninians

Written by  Lenzie Academy

Fixture: Lenzie Academy v St Ninians Kirkintilloch
Competition: LYC Community Cup Final U18's
Date: 26/03/15
East Dunbartonshire schools champions Lenzie retained the Community Cup with an excellent performance, although the match was closer than the score suggests.
Visitors St Ninian’s enjoyed more than their share of pressure in the first half but fell behind to a superbly-executed free-kick from Ben Graham.
Shortly before the interval, a Kieran McSwegan penalty doubled the Academy boys’ advantage.
The next goal was always going to prove important and it came for the home side.
Full-back Jonnie Walker worked his way to the bye-line and sent over a delightful left-foot cross for Graham to head No.3.
As St Ninian’s fought bravely to come back, they were undone by the ever-lively Ewan Macpherson.
The attacking midfielder set up McSwegan to net before adding a brace of his own to complete the scoring.
After the match, Lenzie YC Secretary Ian Stevenson presented the trophy to the winning team of whom coach Will Walker was understandably proud. He commented: “Full credit is due to St Ninian’s for their contribution to a fine match, but our boys put on a very mature display and produced some quality at key moments. They’ve had a great season.”
Midfielder Marc Faulkner was the Lenzie Academy Player of the Day.
