Fixture: Milton Reds v Stenhousemuir FC Community
Competition: U17's FVFDA League Cup
On Saturday 28th March Milton Red's 1998's U17’s were at home to Stenhousemuir in their League cup section match. Milton defeated Stenny in their league encounter earlier in the season but the visitors have been much improved recently with a few good results and therefore were never going to be under estimated.
The game was played on the Astroturf park at Bannockburn High School. Although the surface was fine the blustery overhead conditions where the wind was blowing across the park made it very difficult for both teams to play controlled football.
Milton got off to a good start and put the visitors under early pressure coming close to opening the scoring with only the woodwork preventing an opener for the eager home side.
On the half hour mark, Milton made the break through when top scorer Kros Brown was first to react when Falconer in the away goal could only parry a Jake Hurry powerful shot and Brown rifled the ball into the net.
In the 33rd minute Brown doubled his and Milton‘s tally when he added a second goal.
With Milton looking well in command Stenhousemuir got themselves back into the cup tie when from a corner their centre back rose unchallenged to power a header into the back of the net.
Five minutes from the break, after some fine interplay, Kros Brown completed his hat-trick to restore Milton’s two goal advantage but with minutes to go to the interval, Stenhousemuir broke upfield and scored to again reduce Milton’s lead to a solitary goal.
The first half came to a close with Milton leading by three goals to two.
Half Time : Milton Reds 3-2 Stenhousemuir
At the break Milton coach Kenny Brown congratulated his players for the quality of their play but also emphasised the necessity of concentrating at the back as the visitors were very dangerous on the break and had scored two goals from very little possession.
After the restart, Milton kept up the tempo and came very close on a few occasions to increasing their lead although Stenhousemuir were working hard and still in contention.
In the 80th minute Milton finally got the goal their pressure merited when a Stenhousemuir defender turned the ball into his own net while trying to block another Jake Hurry cross flying across the away goal area.
In the final minutes Kros Brown again netted to secure the points for the home side.
Milton were pleased to have secured the points in the section and were happy with the application of the whole squad but a special congratulation went to “Top scorer” Brown who has now netted 41 goals in all matches in the current season.
