Milton secure cup win in difficult conditions at Stirling

Written by

Fixture: Stirling Albion Young Reds v Milton Reds
Competition: Forth Valley FDA League Cup
Venue: Stirling High School
Date: 14/03/15
On Saturday, 14th March, Milton Reds under 17’s were at home to Stirling Albion Young Reds in their League cup section match.  The game was played at Stirling High School on the grass at Williamfield. The undulating surface made it difficult for both teams to play football and, as a result, the match was not a great spectacle with both teams struggling to control and pass the ball properly on the difficult surface.
In the 3rd minute Milton got off to a good start when forward Callum Brown ran on to a fine through ball from teammate Jake Hurry, and fired into the net past the advancing Thomson in the home goal.
The game then never really got going as both teams failed to settle into any pattern of play. As the half wore on Milton gradually began to gain territorial advantage and, after a few close calls, finally doubled their advantage when forward Kros Brown took a pass from teammate Callum to rifle home.
The first half came to a close with Milton leading by two goals to nil.
Half Time: Stirling Albion Young Reds 0-2 Milton Reds
The second half started with both teams knowing that whichever side scored next would determine the games momentum. Neither side seemed to get into any rhythm as the game tended to be rather stop start.
In the 73rd minute Milton scored after the home defence failed to clear a corner. Defender Jason Walker duly bundled the ball home from close range.
With the game drawing to a close Stirling gave themselves hope when they managed to score. They then pushed forward to try to rescue a result.
Their hopes faded when, with three minutes left, midfielder Hamish McIntyre, who had worked tirelessly, scored to restore Milton’s three-goal advantage.
In the final minute of the match Stirling scored, but it only proved to be a consolation as the final whistle soon sounded and the points went away with the visitors from Milton.  The match ended with the final score Stirling Albion Young Reds 2, Milton Red 4.
Milton’s next game will be home at Braehead on Saturday 28th March when they will take on Stenhousemuir in a League Cup section match.
