Westwood walk over Larkhall to victory

Written by  Westwood Rovers

Fixture: Larkhall United v Westwood Rovers
Competition: Under 16's Lanarkshire FDA "A" League
Date: 15/03/15

With recent 7 and 8 nil wins in the last couple of games it looked like a repeat was on the cards when William opened the scoring with less than 2 minutes on the clock. A cross from the right from Oisin found William who gave the keeper no chance. The next 8 minutes were all Westwood until the 10th minute when, on a rare foray out of their own half the home side levelled.

The rest of the half and perhaps the rest of the game, was played almost exclusively in the home teams half but chances weren't taken and it remained 1-1 until the 27th minute.

A long ball to Nathan was well controlled and he rifled the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead. Again, plenty of pressure and chances but no more goals.

The second half started much the same as the first, with Westwood dominating things, however the Westwood keeper, Andrew was called into action early on when some rare slack defending let the striker through and Andrew came off his line well to block.  It must be said for Andrew, his distribution and use of the ball was excellent, at times playing as a sweeper in the last 3rd.

With 10 minutes gone the game was effectively finished as a contest. Lewi whipped in a dangerous cross and Charlie's deft touch was enough to make it 3-1.

Another agonising 20 minutes of missed chances before the 4th goal. A quick throw in from Kyle caught the home defence napping and Lewi finished brilliantly to make it 4-1. Then with only minutes remaining, Jack played a great ball out of defence to Lewi on the left. Another great cross and Josh was there to finish it off.

All in a good result without playing at our best on what can only be described as a poor pitch.  24 shots, only 9 on target. Shooting practice this week anyone? Some good performances all over the park, Lewi with a goal and a couple of assists, a solid back 4 who limited the home team to 1 real chance, some good battling in midfield and decent hold up play from the strikers, but man of the match goes to Jack Macquire  (independently verified - I asked him). Never missed a tackle and distributed the ball well from the back. Now building up a great understanding with the equally impressive Matthew.
