Written by  Gartcairn

Fixture: Gartcairn v Cumbernauld Colts
Competition: Under 14's C&KYFL "A" League
Venue: Excelsior Stadium
Date: 07/02/15
Gartcairn’s first game of 2015 and it showed in the first ten minutes of this tense league game.
Gartcairn were clearly rusty and in five minutes Colts took advantage of some sloppy defending to lead 1-0. Colts were still on top and squandered a few half chances in the first ten minutes of this game.
Gartcairn then settled and began to find their touch and rhythm.
On twenty minutes Liam Kerr burst through the Colts defense to fire a fantastic shot towards the Colts net, the Colts keeper produced a wonder save but could only direct his save on to the on rushing Shaun McGivern who blasted the ball under pressure in to the net.
Gartcairn then took control of the midfield with McWhirter controlling the tempo, passing and attacks. One of his precision passes found McGivern twenty yards from the Colts goal, who spun the defender and rattled home an unstoppable shot from twenty yards.
Five minutes before half time yet another brilliant pass from McWhirter set Kerr free down the right who fired over a deep back post cross to the onrushing Matt Canavan who bulleted his header high in to the net.
Half Time : Gartcairn FA 3-1 Cumbernauld Colts
The second half began with Gartcairn seemingly thinking this tie was over. The passing was misdirected to often and tackles were missed. This gave the Colts inspiration and they had quite a number of chances before they scored their second from a fine strike outside the box.
Changes were made with Ross Anderson coming on to shore up the midfield, Roddy coming on to replace Josh Renicks who by now had run himself in to the ground.
The last ten minutes were frantic with the Gartcairn defence panicking unnecessarily leading to some half chances for Colts.
The game could have been over had Boncota squared to Kerr with four minutes to but decided to shoot and sent his show wide of the target.
With one minute to go Colts were pushing for the equalizer when defensive stalwart Christie picked up the ball, looked up and sent a precision pass through the Colts back line to allow Boncota through 1 on 1 against the Colts keeper. Boncota kept his cool to round the Colts keeper to slot home Gartcairns fourth and tie up all three points.
Gartcairn now lead Jimmy Johnstone at the top of the league with two points.
