Fixture: Syngenta v Rossvale Madrid
Competition: Under 14's CSFA League
It was the first game of 2015 for both sides on Saturday after an extended break with the bad weather. Indeed for Syngenta it was the 13th December the last game played so an element of rust was always likely.
Both sides started well and pressed on for the opening goal and Syngenta’s back four with the returning MacPherson were put under pressure from the off, however at the other end the pace of Newlands and Thomson always looked likely to cause problems for the visitors.
The visitors were first to score however after a good break down the right saw an unchallenged cross into the box rifled by MacPherson on the volley into the top corner of the goal in 25 minutes.
However, the home side were instantly on the attack and only some fine goalkeeping by Coyle prevented an equaliser but eventually the pressure told and on the stroke of half time a break away saw Newlands outstrip the home side to squad with the keeper out to Thomson to equalise.
The second half started off at pace with both sides however would turn when Mudrik was sent off for a straight red card, a poorly timed tackle, however with no malice intended. That spurred the home side on and the pace which had always threatened saw a corner created from a break away and debutant Colquhons corner was met on the volley again by MacPherson, this time in the right end of the pitch.
Syngenta pushed on again for more goals and only a MoM performance from Coyle for the visitors prevented more however in the 60min a through ball from Buglass saw Thomson nick in behind the defender to make it 3-1.
The result will boost the Syngenta lads who after an excellent start to the season had stuttered in November. It has to be said four weeks indoor in January playing Futsal already appears to be paying dividends, perhaps an idea which needs to be considered for a full 11 a side shutdown in December and January with more Futsal tournaments.
