Lenzie advanced to the next round after a hard-fought cup tie over Renfrew HS.
The visitors started brightly and soon tested Carlos Christie in the Lenzie goal with a couple of long-range efforts. It wasn’t long however, before the home side threatened at the other end with Sionn Miller’s probing runs posing a clear danger.
A big moment arrived in the 20th minute when Lenzie’s Dylan Ryan set up Lewis Beveridge and the striker fired home convincingly to put his side ahead.
Substitute Callum Groom had the chance to add a second soon afterwards but his shot was well saved by visiting ‘keeper Dylan Manvel.
Renfrew fought back in search of a pre-interval equaliser and Lenzie had full-back Jonnie Walker to thank for a goal-line clearance which preserved his side’s advantage.
Half-Time: Lenzie Academy 1-0 Renfrew HS
The second period saw the visitors continue to press forward but they found Lenzie, superbly-marshalled by captain Ryan McCormack, in uncharitable mood. Goalie Christie was also in top form, denying Renfrew with a couple of excellent saves.
With the tie on a knife-edge, the closing period was predictably tense but Lenzie remained composed and compact to clinch a splendid result.
