Formartine United of Pitmedden, Aberdeenshire made the trip down the east coast to face Hearts in the last 16 of the SFA Youth Cup. Having knocked out Arbroath in the previous round, the Highland League side were looking to pull off a giant killing against the Capital outfit.
With 24 minutes on the clock Hearts' pressure finally told. Sam Nicholson set up Gary Oliver, who fired it home from just inside the box. Just eight minutes later Hearts and Oliver made it two, with a neat finish after good build up play between Angus Beith and Dale Carrick.
An incredible 11 minute hat-trick was then completed when Oliver headed home a cross by Liam Smith. It proved to be the final goalscoring action of the half.
Half Time: Heart of Midlothian 3-0 Formartine United
The second half saw Hearts well and truly hit the goal trail. An own goal five minutes after the break made it four and Nicholson made it five before Carrick continued his fine scoring form in the competition, making it six.
Adam King and Robbie Buchan bagged a goal each to increase the advantage. Then Oliver scored his fourth to make it 9-0.
Nicholson and Carrick added to their tallies to round off the scoring and complete a comprehensive victory for Hearts.
