Hamilton Academical's saw off Dundee in a relatively comfortable manner with a 4-1 victory in the SPFL Development League. The home side found themselves two goals to the good at half-time, and while Dundee closed the gap to one goal early on in the second period of play, goals from Boyd and Cunningham with fifteen minutes from play sealed the victory.
It was the away side that started the match sprightly though and went close within the first minute. However, the deadlock was broken after only six minutes when Accies were awarded a corner kick. Boyd sent the ball into the penalty area for Hamilton boss Martin Canning to head home from six yards.
Accies were on the attack once more shortly after with Ryan Tierney making a good run out wide before moving inside and cutting the ball back for Louis Longridge. His effort from ten yards out was kept low, but Dundee keeper Kyle Gourlay managed to get down and make a good save.
Then on fifteen minutes, Boyd struck another corner into the Dundee penalty area. The ball was headed goal ward by Shaun Want but fortunately for Dundee, Sam Dryden was on hand to head clear from the goal line.
The pressure on the Dundee goal was relentless. Canning played the ball forward to Want on the edge of the penalty area, before it was sent wide to Louis Longridge who immediately struck back in toward the six yard box for Want to touch in for 2-0.
Dundee’s best chance of the half came when they broke forward and the ball went wide toward Calvin Colquhoun. He then passed inside for John Black, whose strike narrowly missed the target from twenty five yards.
Tierney showed his class once more when he turned his marker and placed a perfect pass through for Marc Kelly inside the penalty area. He then rounded a defender before striking wide of the back post.
